How we work

Every story is reported here, in Westland. We go to the council meetings, we read the budget documents, and we ask the questions residents ask us to ask. Where we quote somebody, we spoke to them.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we say so at the bottom of the story, with the date, and we leave the correction there permanently. We do not quietly edit a story and pretend it always said that.

Readers write here too

Anyone with an account can send in a story. An editor reads all of them. If we run it, it goes out under the writer’s own name and is marked clearly as a reader story, because you are entitled to know who wrote what you are reading.

How this is paid for

Local businesses sponsor the paper. Their space is labelled as sponsorship every time it appears. Sponsorship buys space on the page and nothing else, no sponsor sees a story before it runs, and no sponsor has ever had one taken down.

What we do not do

There is no advertising network on this site, no third-party tracking script, and nothing that follows you off this domain. We count how many people read a story. That is the whole of it.
